I found this interesting. In the 1950's, there were Cocodrilo (Crocodile) taxis in Mexico.

Ah yes, los cocodrilos. Absolute legends in Mexico D.F. I know a place near Plaza Carso that has garage full of these.
Some were featured in The Largest Classic Car Parade in the Woooorld 2 years ago in Mexico D.F.

It was the official taxi livery at the time. The liveries change every so many years. The 57/58 Ford was just the most common choice of vehicle indeed but any vehicle that was a taxi used that livery. Currently (since 2015), the official livery of the city is pink and white. All official city taxis have to use this livery (few exemptions)

I think Monterrey still uses the green with white top
